Iron ore, lead sulfide and lime production, geology, mineralogy

From 1637 to 1805 there was mining in the background of the valley. The blast furnaces were located in the "Schmelzi" area near Zweilütschinen and behind Trachsellauenen. The authorities granted licenses for ore mining. A few local people were busy transporting the ore or felling trees. Before cement was known, burnt lime was used, the latter being produced in simple burning ovens in many places.
