About the hard and wearisome work done by our ancestors
In the old days the roads were steep, narrow and rocky. There were no draft and pack animals to make work easier. Carrying loads was the usual fate for anyone, from childhood to old-age. The carrying gear was adapted to the type of load to be carried and to the carrier. Making hay, making hay in the mountains, preparing and transporting wood for construction purposes and for fires as well as quarrystones - these were particularly wearisome types of work.
